A Sports Day

The sports day of Kasuga Elementary School was held on Sunday, May 31. Kasuga Elementary school is my old school and my house was cheek by jowl with it. My father and older sister also finished this school.

The school is close to Kumamoto Station. There were many students in the old days because many staff members of the national railroad in Kasuga area. But the railroad became a private enterprise and the staff members were reduced. As a result, there are only about 200 students now.

The sports day of Kasuga Elementary School is held by not only school but also a community. The people who live in Kasuga area join competitions or management of it. This project started ten years ago. I join the sports day with a costume every year. Last year, I wore the costume of Mr. Nokubo who is a member of “Shu-Chi-Shin”, and I wore the uniform of Ichiro of Seattle Mariners this year. I joined the entrance march with the uniform, and took the oath as player. I also ran the relay race. My performance appealed to the participants. I became very popular among the school children. They called me “Ichiro!”, “Ichiro!” Now, I am planning the costume for next year.

Essay # 4 The memorial days in my life

I have three memorial days.

The first one was the day when the Hanshin Tigers won the pennant race in 2003. It had been 18 years since the Tigers won the championship in 1985. I was born in 1988. So, I didn’t know then. As I mentioned before, I’m a Tigers fan. The victory in 2003 made me to be more fan. Mr. Hoshino who was manager of the Tigers in those days was really excellent. His impression was he lost his temper easily. His anger made the players so afraid but it raised the morale of the team. He was a stubborn old man like typical Japanese father. This character appealed to me.

The second one was the day when the Tigers won the pennant race in 2005 again. Luckily for me, I could watch the moment of the victory on TV. At that time I cried out for joy. It was the very exciting game. When Mr. Kanemoto(left fielder) caught the winning ball, I burst into tears. The Tigers played an active part in 2005. Both the batters and the pitchers did a wonderful job. Among of all, Mr. Imaoka, Mr. Kanemoto and Mr. Akahoshi played marvelous role as the batters. As the pitchers, Mr. Shimoyanagi, Mr. Fujikawa and Mr. Williams were excellent. I felt that I was happy to be a fan of the Tigers all over again on that day.

The third day was the day when Japanese Team won the WBC in March this year. The people all over Japan rejoiced at the victory. They were impressed by the winning hit of Mr. Ichiro or the moment when Mr. Darbish struck out the last batter. So was I. in addition, there were some more scenes impressed me. Especially the moderate play of Mr. Uchikawa of Baystars fascinated me. I watched all of the games from the elimination match to the finals. The victory of Japanese team made me very happy. There was a special implication that Japanese “Yakyu” dominated the world.

All of my memorial days were on baseball. That’s because I have an ardent love of baseball. I’m deeply grateful to meet with baseball.
